BN and PR urged to consider forming coalition govt

PETALING JAYA, The Sun (March 9, 2009) : Gerakan vice-president Datuk Mah Siew Keong has urged Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to consider forming a coalition government to put an end to all political controversies and to work together for the improvement of the country’s economy.

Mah said this in response to PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s recent suggestion for PAS and Umno to form a coalition government.

Speaking to Sin Chew Daily after attending temple function in Telok Intan on Sunday, Mah said it is unacceptable if a coalition is form only between PAS and Umno.

But if the proposal is for a coalition government to be formed by all component parties of BN and PR, then it should be studied and considered, he said.

“Since 308 (March 8 general election last year), the people are deeply concerned about issues regarding economy, crimes and politics.

“A 27.8% drop in the country’s exports for January indicates the severity of the economic problem we are facing.”

Mah said Hadi Awang’s coalition government concept was rejected by some Umno leaders.

He said Umno should not be so quick in rejecting the PAS leader’s proposal but study and consider it in the interest of the people and the country.
